The Emergency First Aid at Work course is designed to provide participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to handle medical emergencies and provide first aid in the workplace. This course covers essential first aid techniques, enabling individuals to respond effectively to injuries and illnesses until professional medical help arrives.

Participants will learn how to assess and manage a range of emergency situations, including CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), choking, bleeding, and shock. The course also includes training on how to use first aid equipment, recognize symptoms of common workplace injuries, and implement emergency response procedures. Emphasis is placed on maintaining calm, acting efficiently, and ensuring the safety of both the injured person and the responder.

By the end of the course, learners will be equipped with practical first aid skills and the confidence to respond effectively in emergency situations, contributing to a safer workplace environment.

The qualification meets the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements for training first aiders in those organisations that have identified that staff need to be trained to this level within their first-aid needs assessment. It will also ensure your first-aiders are approved to deliver first aid for 3 years, after which they will need to retake the course.

Topics Include:

  • Roles and responsibilities of the first aider
  • How to assess an incident
  • Recognising signs and symptoms of injury and illness
  • First aid skills in CPR and use of an AED
  • Assisting a casualty who is suffering from major injury and illness such as chest injuries, spinal injuries and anaphylaxis


This course will be held over 1 day and assessment will take part throughout the course by practical observations, oral questioning and a multiple choice exam. This one-day course covers a range of CPR and first aid skills, providing you with the skills to ensure a safe working environment.
