Course description

The Understanding Autism course is designed to provide individuals with a comprehensive understanding of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and effective strategies for supporting individuals with autism. This course offers valuable insights into the characteristics of autism, including sensory processing, communication challenges, and behavioural patterns.
Participants will learn about the spectrum of autism, including the range of symptoms and how they may vary from person to person. The course covers best practices for supporting individuals with autism in various settings, including educational, social, and work environments. Topics include communication techniques, sensory needs, behaviour management, and creating inclusive environments.
By the end of the course, learners will have a deeper understanding of autism and practical skills to support individuals with ASD effectively, promoting their inclusion and well-being.

Delivery

The course will be completed online via our e-assessor platform. The duration of the course is seven weeks and is designed to be completed around your work and home life commitments. All deadlines for your course will be shown in your online course platform once you are enrolled to keep track.

This course is made up of six units:

  • Introduction to Autism
  • Using a Person-Centred Approach to Support Autistic Individuals
  • Communication and Social Interaction in Autistic Individuals
  • Sensory Processing, Perception and Cognition in Autistic Individuals
  • Supporting Positive Behaviour in Autistic Individuals
  • Supporting Autistic Individuals to Live Healthy and Fulfilled Lives
