Course description

The Award in Health & Safety within a Construction Environment course is designed to provide participants with essential knowledge and skills to ensure safety and compliance in construction sites. This course focuses on the key health and safety regulations, practices, and risk management strategies specific to the construction industry.
Participants will learn about various hazards present in construction environments, including physical, chemical, and ergonomic risks. The course covers vital topics such as risk assessment, safe work practices, personal protective equipment (PPE), and emergency procedures. By the end of the course, learners will be equipped to identify potential risks, implement effective safety measures, and contribute to a safer construction environment, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.

This course requires 100% attendance; please allow for traffic in the morning to arrive promptly. If you are late, it is the tutors discretion on whether you’ll be able to go onto the course.


On Course:

This Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment qualification is for people wishing to apply for the Construction Skills Certificate Scheme Green Card. 

The CSCS Green Card is intended for those working in labouring occupations only. Achieving this award will demonstrate your understanding of key issues affecting safe working practices on UK construction Sites. 

The courses that you will receive through this program are:

  • Level 1 Award in Heath and Safety in Construction (Including 1 CITBN test and the CSCS Green Card)
  • Level 1 Award Employability Skills


Exams

Test 1 – On the last day of the course, you will sit a multiple choice Health and Safety In construction test. This test is an official test that has to be sent off to the awarding body Highfield. Results from this test can take up to 28 days to be released. This test is the first test of two that you need to sit to obtain a green card. 

Test 2 – After the course, you will receive a phone call from one of the team to book you into an Operatives test. This test is the second test and part of the course. This test is taken at your closest Pearson Professional Centre. 

It is your responsibility to inform Functional Skills UK your results once you have completed this test. When you finish the test, you will be given your result instantly. 


Resitting Exams

If you do not pass your CITB Operatives exam at the Pearson centre then there is a resit fee of £22.50.

Green Labourer Card

Functional Skills UK will order your green card once we have received confirmation that you have passed both tests. It will take up to 14 working days from the day the card is ordered to be delivered to your front door. You will receive an electronic version that most building sites will accept. You can also download the ‘My CSCS’ app to track your application progress.
