Course description

The Functional Skills Maths course teaches practical maths for daily life, work, and education. Topics include arithmetic, fractions, percentages, ratios, measurements, and data handling. It’s suitable for entry level up to Level 2, and aims to build confidence in using maths for real-world situations. Engaging activities and exercises mirror everyday challenges to enhance your maths skills.

Functional Skills Maths will cover: 

  • Number: Basic arithmetic, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
  • Measure, Shape, and Space: Units of measurement, perimeter, area, volume, scales, time, and properties of shapes.
  • Handling Data: Collecting, organizing, interpreting, and representing data through graphs, charts, and tables.

    Further Information

    In order to gain a Functional Skills Maths qualification, you are required to sit and pass an exam, composed of a non-calculator and calculator section. Once you have passed the exams, you will receive a certificate from the awarding body as proof of the new skills you have learnt!

    Exam options:

    We can offer exams at our centre in Brighton. These can be paper-based or done on a computer. We also offer the option of remote exams that can be taken from home but please note, there are some prerequisites and conditions that must be followed. These are also only available for Level 1 or 2 exams.

    Eligibility Criteria:

    ✓ Aged 19 or over

    ✓ Living in England 

    ✓ Lived in the UK or EU/EEA for the last 3 years

    ✓ Not currently enrolled on any other government funded course or started another application for one

    Please note: London, West Midlands, Liverpool, Manchester, South Yorkshire, Bristol, and Bath are not funded via online enrolment.
