Course Overview

The Understanding Specific Learning Difficulties course is designed to provide educators, caregivers, and professionals with a comprehensive understanding of specific learning difficulties (SLDs) and effective strategies for supporting individuals with these challenges. This course focuses on recognising, assessing, and addressing various types of learning difficulties, including dyslexia, dyscalculia, and dyspraxia.

Participants will learn about the characteristics and signs of different SLDs, including how they affect learning and daily functioning. The course covers practical approaches for supporting individuals with SLDs in educational settings and beyond, including tailored teaching strategies, adaptive technologies, and individualised support plans.

By the end of the course, learners will be equipped with the knowledge and tools to effectively support individuals with specific learning difficulties, enhancing their educational experiences and overall success.

This course is made up of five units:

The characteristics of ADHD, ADD, dyslexia and dyscalculia

Unit 2

How specific learning difficulties can affect children and adults in different ways

Unit 3

The importance of early diagnosis

Unit 4

The various assessment methods available to diagnose specific learning difficulties

Unit 5

How individuals can be supported to gain, start and continue with study and employment

Important: The course will be completed online via our e-assessor platform. The duration of the course is seven weeks and is designed to be completed around your work and home life commitments.
