At FSUK, we are passionate about helping people develop the skills, confidence and opportunities they need to move into sustainable employment. One of the most effective ways we achieve this is through strong partnerships with local employers and community organisations.
I love my role in community engagement, supporting local people to access courses and pathways into employment. A great example of this is our successful collaboration with Brighton Palace Pier and Brighton Jobcentre, which is helping local residents access exciting opportunities within the hospitality and customer service sector.
Bringing Learning and Employment Together
Working closely with Brighton Jobcentre, we host information sessions for customers who are interested in exploring careers in hospitality and customer service. These sessions provide valuable insight into the opportunities available and allow participants to learn more about our training programmes, including our Customer Service and Hospitality Skills Bootcamp and Sector-based Work Academy Programmes (SWAPs).
Once enrolled, learners take part in training delivered by our experienced tutors, gaining the knowledge, practical skills and confidence needed to succeed in the workplace.
As part of the programme, representatives from Brighton Palace Pier visit learners during their training to talk about their business, share their experiences and discuss the employment opportunities available. This direct engagement helps learners understand what employers are looking for and provides valuable insight into working within the hospitality industry.
Real Opportunities, Real Outcomes
The programme is designed to create a genuine pathway into employment. Upon completing the course, every learner is offered the opportunity to attend an interview with Brighton Palace Pier.
The results speak for themselves. During a recent Skills Bootcamp, 19 learners completed the programme, and an impressive 15 of them secured employment with Brighton Palace Pier. This demonstrates the power of combining high-quality training with strong employer partnerships and a clear route into work.
Supporting Our Community
Success stories like this highlight the positive impact that can be achieved when education providers, employers and employment support services work together towards a shared goal. By connecting learners directly with employers, we are not only helping individuals gain employment, but also supporting local businesses to recruit motivated and skilled staff while strengthening our local economy.
Recognition at a National Level
The success of our work has also attracted wider attention. During a visit to Brighton, the Minister for Employment took the opportunity to learn more about our partnership approach and the outcomes being achieved within the community. It was great to talk with her and share our story. She spoke with our delegates about the programme and was particularly impressed by the collaborative model we have developed to support people into employment through skills training and employer engagement.
Looking Ahead
We remain committed to building strong relationships with employers and community partners to create more opportunities for local residents. By working together, we can continue to break down barriers to employment, develop skills and help people take the next step towards rewarding and sustainable careers. We are proud of the impact these partnerships are having and look forward to supporting many more learners on their journey into employment.
