Vacancy full description: Functional Skills UK are seeking an ESOL Coordinator to join our innovative team. The role will be to guide our learner’s individual journey of learning a new language so they can achieve independence and confidence within the UK. The post holder is required to provide mapping of ESOL provision, co-ordination of courses, and analysis of appropriateness, quality, and level of ESOL provision within Functional Skills UK. You will be using EDEXCEL as awarding bodies and testing through both online secure client and paper tests. Tutors will be required to work with groups as well as 1:1 delivery within the learner’s workplace and offer additional learning support if required.

Students will be a variation including ESOL workers and Apprentices, so a background in teaching English as a Second language will be beneficial.

Key duties include:

  • Develops and plans ESOL curriculum, working along with tutors on needed resources and materials.
  • Establish and schedule ESOL classes to maximize student learning
  • Manages all testing and placement of learners.
  • Manages program waiting lists and coordinate regular testing sessions.
  • Individualised target setting and planning
  • Provide classroom support, teaching where needed, substitution, or other necessary forms of assistance.
  • Hires and supervises tutors and manages the scheduling of all classes.
  • Build strong community partnerships with refugee and immigrant community groups.
  • Publicizes and promotes ESOL classes throughout refugee and local communities
  • Ensure all learner data and progress is collected, tracked and recorded
  • Provision of feedback and guidance to learners

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or PGCE

  • Manage Functional Skills Accounts for key contracts (this includes line by lines and regular contact with leads, organising courses, enrolling all learners, booking in exam locations and booking exams). New Accounts will be added as and when applicable
  • Organising NHS 10-week evening courses including room bookings, learner enrolments, course bookings, sending registers to tutors, communicating with learners and tutors throughout courses and booking end of course exams – liaising with contacts regularly and forging strong working relationships
  • Lead all weekly functional skills enrolments, including carrying out the zoom presentation, sending learners enrolment paperwork, being the main point of contact for enrolling learners and booking learners onto their preferred learning options after enrolment
  • Initial advice and guidance
  • Registering/claiming learners
  • Inputting information on to internal system (TAB) and requesting info is put on website if relevant
  • Exam registration & booking for Functional Skills learners
  • Resit co-ordination – sending out additional resources
  • Exam invigilation and liaising with Functional Skills Manager to ensure all exams have assigned invigilators
  • Monitoring of online independent Functional Skills learners to make sure they are assigned to tutors when ready
  • Have an understanding of AEB funding rules in particular relation to learners undertaking Functional Skills
  • Tracking all Functional Skills learners who are funded through AEB to make sure they are completing their qualification in the correct funding time frame
  • Data input for key contracts – understand the data input system, meeting upload deadline, check for learners who can be put through the contract as well as any admin surrounding the contract e.g. reports, data compliance, attending meetings

  • Oversight of sign-up and induction sessions
