A STEPPING STONE TO FUNCTIONAL SKILLS

OUR MISSION

Functional Skills has been our bread and butter for a long time, but we know how daunting an this qualification can be.

That's why we run relaxed ‘Pre-Functional Skills’ sessions with a tea/coffee to help our learners discuss the numeracy barriers they are dealing with and their anxieties around maths. Our drop-in sessions help you build your confidence with maths games and discussions to give you the best start on your Functional Skills journey.

MULTIPLY FIRST AID

OUR MISSION

Our first aid courses are very popular in our community but is not always accessible due to the steep cost.

Therefore we utilised Multiply to create a new, improved and updated ‘Multiply – Emergency First Aid at Work course.’ This new course combines our pre-existing level 3 accredited qualification with Maths in first aid to create, not only a course with increased educational value, but one that it free and accessible to a wider audience.

MATHS IN CONSTRUCTION

OUR MISSION

We recognised the importance of maths within construction, such as measuring the area of a garden being returfed or the ratio of mixture needed for cement.

Consequently, we developed a ‘Maths in Construction’ module within our CSCS course which outlined how these skills might be needed in the workplace. Not only does this make our learners more desirable to employers, but they feel much more confident to tackle any challenges that may lay ahead.

OUR MONEY MANAGEMENT EVENTS

OUR MISSION

We wished to provide support to our communities on the cost-of-living crisis while keeping in tune with the Multiply ethos. Understanding interest rates, budgeting, wages, and taxes cannot be achieved without a base knowledge of percentages, money, ratios, and decimals respectively.

We devised our ‘wall of knowledge’ in which we created infographics that helped highlight ways to manage money – from budgeting apps to tax brackets.

We travelled to Southwick, Adur, Worthing, Chichester and Crawley, collaborating with finance professionals to provide support across the West Sussex area. Our largest event took place in a hotel filled with over 900 refugees that were in need of financial advice and support. We are super proud to have helped them on the right path to a recognised maths qualification within the UK.

HELPING SMALL BUISNESSES GROW

OUR MISSION

Starting and running a small business requires a wide range of skills. Our Self-employment and finance programmes helps learners understand the importance of calculating profit/loss, keeping track of spending, interest rates and investments.

This strand of Multiply funding helps deliver financial literacy training to start-up businesses as well as to established micro and small businesses.

Functional Skills UK has been invited to further support our community by being a part of the government’s new million Multiply programme

Under the new Multiply scheme, we are hoping to break down numeracy barriers and help people in the workplace secure better paid jobs and cope with the cost-of-living crisis. We are proud to be a part of the Department for Education’s Multiply investment programme, helping adults feel comfortable with numbers in every aspect of their lives.
