Tia is currently completing the Level 2 Leisure Team Member Apprenticeship with Functional Skills UK; she is completing this apprenticeship at Brighton Swimming Centre (BSC). The aim of this apprenticeship standard is to support, enhance and deliver day-to-day operations within a leisure facility.
Tia commented, “I found out about the apprenticeship because I signed up to complete the Swim England Level 1 Swimming Assistant (teaching) course after having completed my A-Levels. Although I was anxious to do this course at first, I’m glad my friends and family persuaded me to do so, otherwise I wouldn’t have had this brilliant opportunity.”
Tia continues, “Coincidentally, I was taught to swim here at BSC, so when I was offered the chance of completing the apprenticeship, it wasn’t a hard decision for me to accept the offer!”
Tia summarised her experience by saying, “I feel like this apprenticeship has really made me grow as a person, my confidence has improved massively, and I’ve been given the valuable opportunity to learn how the whole business is run. My duties are varied from assisting in the pool in swim lessons to lifeguarding and helping in the office. I love every single aspect of it! My colleagues are the best, they helped me settle in really quickly, so in no time at all I felt like a valued member of the team.”
Jade Cohen, Tia’s line manager commented, “Tia has been a great addition to the team since starting her apprenticeship here. She plays a vital role in enabling a positive experience for our customers and I look forward to seeing how she progresses throughout the rest of her apprenticeship.”
