COURSE DESCRIPTION
The NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Nutrition and Health will provide learners with a range of underpinning knowledge in areas such as healthy eating, nutritional needs, weight management, eating disorders and food safety in the home environment. The qualification supports the Government drive to empower individuals to make healthy choices, a key focus of which is the need to educate and change behaviour on diet and nutrition to reduce the prevalence of obesity.
The qualification will increase learners’ understanding of the principles or health eating and the role of food in maintaining health as well as increase their confidence in planning and achieving a healthy diet. An understanding of how an individual’s dietary requirements change throughout their life and an understanding of food labelling and the ability to use the information from food labels will be provided. Information will also be provided on eating disorders and an increase of understanding will be learnt about the role of a healthy diet for weight management and the principles of food safety in a home environment. This certificate is aimed at learners working in, or intending to work in, settings such as sport and recreation, exercise and fitness, hospitality and catering or healthcare.
CERTIFICATION
To receive the Level 2 certificate, learners need to successfully complete the 6 mandatory units and submit their work as a portfolio. Once achieved, NCFE will send the learner their certificate.
